The Pomegranate Restaurant and Storyteller Ariel Balevi present:
From the Shahnameh (Book of Kings) the 11th century epic masterpiece of Firdowsi comes this story of love which flourishes across enemy boundaries. Fierce boars, a demon's well and a magic cup figure in this romance of brave heroes and devoted lovers. While the Shahnameh abounds in many love stories, this story is unique among them in many ways. It is one of the few stories in the epic that is belived to have derived purely from an oral tradition dating back to Parthian period ( approximately 200 BC to 100AD). Also among the many stories of battles and fraternal conflict, it is one of the few stories in the epic that has a disinct female voice. The story evokes an ancient past and exploits elements such as heroism, betrayal and magic, that are found in the later romances of the European Middle Ages.
It all begins on a long dark sleepless night. A poet who is afraid of the dark is consoled by his wife who tells him a love story of long ago...and the time to come....
